When big rigs crash, other drivers, and passengers are frequently in danger. However, truckers also face dangers on a daily basis. Recently, a Georgia semi-truck driver lost his life in a crash that sparked a house fire.
The wreck occurred close to the intersection of Industrial Park Road and Highway 411 in Cartersville in November.
A report on Fox5 noted a tractor-trailer hit a broken down vehicle, reported Bartow County EMS. The force of the crash caused the semi-truck to veer off the highway and into power lines. The rig then caught fire.
The news report stated the truck was within a few feet of a home which also caught fire. A man who was asleep inside the home at the time of the crash was able to make it out safely. The fiery crash led first responders to close a portion of Highway 411.

It’s always tragic to read about the death of a trucker, a car driver, or a motorcyclist on the roads of Georgia.
Truckers lose their lives on a regular basis in Georgia. In the summer, four tractor-trailers were involved in a wreck in the state that claimed the life of a Florida trucker.
Driving a truck is one of the most deadly professions in the United States. According to the annual workplace fatality report for 2015, America lost 745 truckers that year.
The number of fatal accidents involving truckers dropped slightly in 2015 from 2014, when 761 drivers lost their lives on the roads. Despite the small drop, trucking linked occupations accounted for slightly more than a quarter of all work-related deaths in 2015, more than any other job according to a report from the U.S. Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Over the five years to 2015, truck driver deaths crept up 11.2 percent. This may reflect the fact that more drivers are on the road as increasing numbers of people are employed by carriers such as Amazon.
